Foundation KulturDialog Armenien organizes the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 at the premises of the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA/NPAK) in Yerevan from October 25th to December 15th, 2017 and welcomes all artists, guests and visitors alike. With this overview we would like to give you some information about the events of the biennale:
The First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 is divided into two sections:
- Contest of the biennale: | 25.10. – 10.11.2017 |
- Additional exhibitions of the biennale | 29.10. – 15.12.2017 |
The time from October 25th until October 28th, 2017 is dedicated to the exhibition of artworks by printmakers from all over the world joined in Erevan for a unique contest. The contest exhibition of the biennale will present 448 art works by 227 artists from 50 countries starting with the opening ceremony at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA/NPAK) on October 25th, 2017.
The international jury of the biennale consists of 5 professionals, who will select winning works and artists during the two days after the opening ceremony: Jury president Inga Heamägi M.A. (Estonia), Achim Könneke (Germany), Prof. Dr. Mateusz Otręba (Poland), Dr. Alexandra Stäheli (Switzerland), and Sona Harutyunyan M.A. (Armenia). On the occasion of the award ceremony at the premises of Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA/NPAK) on October 28th, 2017, the jury will award a Grand Prix (Medal), a First Prize (Medal), a Second Prize (Medal), and a Third Prize (Medal) and also Diplomas for outstanding works of special interest. All artists, guests and visitors have the possibility to see the works of the contest exhibited until the closing ceremony of the contest of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA/NPAK) on November 10th, 2017. All exhibited works will be published in the official catalogue of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017, which will be presented during the closing ceremony.
The The second part of the biennale focusses on contemporary Armenian and Swiss printmaking: The two solo exhibitions of printed works by the Armenian artists Artur Hakobyan (starting October 29th, 2017) and Arman Vahanyan (starting November 7th, 2017) will give the audience and visitors from abroad an insight into current trends of the Armenian art scene in the field of printmaking. The solo exhibition of the Swiss artist-residence Marcel Mayer, guest of honor of the biennale, correspondingly presents the contemporary Swiss printmaking art scene, starting November 17th, 2017.
During the award ceremony of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 on October 28th, 2017, winning artists will be awarded a Grand Prix (Medal), a First Prize (Medal), a Second Prize (Medal), and a Third Prize (Medal) by the international jury. Additionally, several special “Honorable Mention Diplomas” will be attributed for distinguished artworks of special interest. All medals of the First International Print Biennale have been created by the Armenian sculptor Melik Shahnazaryan especially for this occasion. Medal winning artists will be given the possibility to present their works in a solo exhibition during the next biennale, i.e. the “International Print Biennale Yerevan 2019”.
